Work in Development – The Peacock Theatre, April 2014

Are you all ready… To wake up? You’re going to wake up. And if you’re not ready you’re going to stay pretending, you’re just going to sit there and think ‘ poor little me’.

The Red Room asks questions of modern Ireland, what is the fate of the unemployed? How do you begin again? We meet Arvid Falk, a government assistant made redundant amid departmental restructuring. He is a man in a moment of crisis and change; he is restless and wrestling with the question “who am I if not this?” We slip into his subconscious; dream-like scenes that replay the moment of rejection, a surreal repetition that inspires Kafka-esque confusion and anxiety. Falk sees a new path in a moment of awakening and, little by little, begins to find connections again.

Adapted and directed by Maeve Stone The Red Room is brought to life by  a team of some of Ireland’s best young talent.
